Auto top-up adds prepaid credit when your balance falls below a threshold you choose. It is optional and starts off. Only an admin of your organization can manage it, from Developers → Billing → Auto top-up in the dashboard.

Turn it on

  1. Save a card from the billing page and make it your default payment method.
  2. Turn on Enable Auto top-up.
  3. Enter a balance threshold: the balance below which a top-up can run.
  4. Choose a top-up amount: 10,10, 25, 50,50, 100, or a custom amount from 10to10 to 5,000. The threshold must be lower than this amount. Dollar amounts allow up to two decimal places.
  5. Check the monthly limit. It starts at three times your top-up amount, capped at 10,000.Youcaneditit,butitmustcoveratleastonetop−upandcannotexceed10,000. You can edit it, but it must cover at least one top-up and cannot exceed 10,000.
  6. Select Save Auto top-up to authorize automatic charges to your saved card.
Auto top-up is for prepaid accounts. It uses your organization’s billing card even when you are viewing Sandbox in the dashboard.

Monthly spending and limits

This month shows the amount charged automatically against your monthly limit. The limit resets each UTC calendar month. A top-up that would exceed it is not charged. Manual top-ups are separate from this automatic spending limit. Balance checks run periodically, so a top-up is not instantaneous. If your credit runs out before it arrives, or after you reach your limit, API requests stop until you have credit again. You can add credit manually from the billing page.

Emails you receive

Every active organization admin receives:
  • A receipt after each top-up: the amount, your new balance (when it can be read at sending time), card brand and last four digits, monthly total and limit, and how to turn Auto top-up off.
  • A monthly limit reached email: once per organization per month when another top-up would exceed the limit. Increase the limit or add credit manually to continue.
  • A paused email: what happened and what to do if your card is declined, needs authentication, or cannot be used.
Stripe also emails a payment receipt for the card charge.

Pause and resume

A card problem pauses Auto top-up. The panel shows Paused and the reason. Nothing retries while paused. Update or replace your saved card as needed, then save the settings again with Auto top-up on to resume.

Turn it off

Turn off Enable Auto top-up, then select Save Auto top-up. Your saved settings are kept for later. Turning it off does not refund earlier top-ups.
